115V / 230V Rainman WATERMAKER

The most popular model of Installation Watermaker is the AC model – which uses an AC  power source – such as an onboard generator or good quality inverter – to power the system. This configuration can be ordered in either 115V/60Hz or 230V/50Hz.  Don’t hesitate to contact us if you are unsure which power configuration to order.

AC Systems are capable of up to

37 GPH

12V DC Rainman Watermaker

Rainman Watermakers are also available in a 12V DC configuration – DC installed watermaker systems are ideal for vessels looking for low output, and a very low power consumption. Ideal for running on  wind/solar supplemented battery bank.  If running on batteries alone, we recommend at least a 400 amp-hour bank to operate this system.

12V DC Systems are capable of up to

9 GPH

Installation Pressure Supply Unit

(NKD Electric PSU)

Two Components – One System

Installation Rainman Watermakers consists of two components: the Pressure Supply Unit and a set of Reverse Osmosis Membranes. Both are required to make a complete Rainman Watermaker desalination system.

Installation of the system can be done professionally – however due to the design of the system, most of our customers complete the installation without the use of an installer. The skills required include the use of hand tools, water line routing, plumbing and associated cabling. Check out our installation guidance to help plan your install.

The Pressure Supply Unit is easily selected based upon your power supply at the time of installation. The PSU lifts the seawater, filters out dirt and sediment then puts the system under high pressure for operation. There are multiple methods of watermaker installation as detailed below. This system comes complete with all mounting and installation hardware (excluding throughhull and strainer)

A set of membranes are connected to the PSU to extract drinking water from the seawater  – which is the basic operation of the system.

115V Installation PSU

115V Installation Pressure Supply Units are designed to operate drawing around 12A/1250 watts in steady state power consumption. A 2KvA generator or high quality inverter is often used with this configuration.

    Rainman Watermaker

    Membrane Options

    Two Components – One System

The Reverse Osmosis Membrane is ‘Part Two’ that will complete your Rainman Watermaker Desalination System.
Membrane selection is a combination of size and product water requirements.
Whilst the high output system is the most popular of the three models – three options are available: Economy, Compact and High Output. The intentional naming of the membrane options represent the selection characteristics.
The membranes recieve the high pressure water from the Pressure Supply Unit and, using reverse osmosis, extract the drinking water from the seawater.
The membranes will produce two ‘output’ streams – the first will be the ‘Brine’ or ‘Waste water’ – which you will discharge back into the ocean – this is simply the same water that came in to the system – minus some pure water molecules.
The second stream the membranes produce is the ‘permeate’ or ‘fresh water’ stream. This is the output that we commonly refer to as ‘product’ water, and is comparable in quality to bottled or distilled water. You will place this product water hose in your fresh water tanks and leave to fill.

    High Output Membranes

    26 – 37 GPH

The installation high output membrane is the flagship model – designed specifically for the Rainman Installation Pressure Supply Units. With the High Output membrane, you can expect to produce between 26 – 37 GPH. This is our most popular and highest output option.

    Easy Mounting System

Physical installation of a watermaker system is a common challenge.

Rainman has deleloped, and includes with every installation system, a intuitive mounting system designed and constructed from fiberglass reinforced nylon to greatly simplify the installation process – simply screw or adhere the membrane and PSU seating plates to the desired location, and the Rainman Watermaker simply ‘snaps’ into place.

    Plumbing Solutions

Sourcing all of the components to install a watermaker can be a challenge – but Rainman has taken the time and guesswork out of it, and includes a comprehensive plumbing installation kit with every installation system.

This kit is designed to fulfil the requirements for the majority of installations – whilst understanding that every vessel and application is different, so there may be some parts remaining to source (such as extra hose and fittings for custom installations / extended runs etc)

    Portable Desalination Rainman watermaker operations

    Types of Installation

The Rainman Watermaker during installation can be plumbed in various configurations to account for various onboard situations.

Optional components are also available for purchase to further customise your installation – such as an Auto Flush System, or Control Panel.

Can I Convert An Installation System To A Portable?

Yes! Rainman Installation systems can easily be converted to an portable system, and vice versa. The blue shells (available for purchase) attach, and the plumbing components can be sourced in the parts store. You can also purchase the system as a portable system

Do I Have To Buy Spares Through A Dealer?

No! The Rainman Watermaker system uses components that are compatible with many other brands – and the sizing of the membranes and filters are common size – which means that you can source from various marine stores globally.

What Is The Maintance Required on A Rainman System?

All systems onboard require maintance – your watermaker is no exception. A full guide comes with your system – but as a rule of thumb:

    •  5-50 Hrs – Prefilter Change
    • 1-2 Years – Impeller & Oil Change
    • 5-10 Years – Membrane and Packings Change

    Optional Accessories

The Rainman Watermaker during installation can be plumbed in various configurations to account for various onboard situations.

Optional components are also available for purchase to further customise your installation – such as an Auto Flush System, or Control Panel.

    Rainman Autoflush System (Optional)

Your Rainman Watermaker – like all onboard equipment, requires periodic care to maintain its efficiency. One of the most important aspects of maintenance is ensuring the membranes are flushed and pickled during periods of non-use.

The Rainman Autoflush system will take over this task for you – ensuring that your system is flushed with fresh water regularly to maximise the life of your watermaker membranes.

This optional rainman autoflush system incorporates a solid state programmable timer that will flush your system after each use and every seven days thereafter.

With redundancy protocols should your vessel lose power – the autoflush system will have you covered.

    Rainman Control Panel (Optional)

This optional control panel provides a remote management capability for your rainman watermaker system. It has been designed to be intuitive and user freindly in order to enhance your Rainman experience.

The Rainman control panel can easily integrate with your autoflush system to trigger a flush cycle after powering the watermaker off.

Built in tri-colour LED keeps you on top of your water quality during production – taking the guess work out of desalination.

Simple installation – no high voltage wiring or high pressure fittings.
